New in Town! Chonmage Ramen, same spot, new owner!

After the original owners retired, San Rafael resident Peigang “Bobby” Chen took over the longtime ramen shop on Courthouse Square in 2025. A former customer and certified Ramen Sommelier through Japan’s International Noodle Sommelier Association, Chen refined the broths to create deeper balance and umami while keeping the dishes light and approachable.

Classics like Tonkatsu Ramen can be made with a vegan broth crafted to closely match the traditional pork version. The restaurant uses no MSG, peanuts, or other nuts. Signature dishes include Tom Yum Ramen with kombu dashi and fresh herbs, Tokyo TanTan Ramen blending Japanese and Chinese noodle influences, Spicy Wagyu Ramen, and Black Garlic Pork Rib Ramen with optional gluten-free noodles. Small bites like Chicken Karaage, Gyoza, Curry Rice, and udon dishes pair perfectly with sake or Japanese beer.
