Meet Your Neighbors

Introducing a new feature, with stories of our Downtown San Rafael business neighborhood.

Pam Dixon, Co-manager Friends Books San Rafael

Friends Books

How long has the bookstore existed?

We’re going into our 12th year. The same group of people who work at the store now were the ones who started out years ago, doing sales on the library lawn and in the library meeting room.

What is the purpose of the store?

We support library programs. After our expenses, 25% goes into savings for our future library and 75% is available for funding library projects. For example, we support the children's summer reading program—an $18,000 project that’s now expanded to adults.

Watch our website for more BID member interviews. If you’d like to be featured or suggest someone else, please contact Sharon at folkart@thefolkartgallery.com

It’s easy to get highlighted. We’ll interview you, take some photos or use yours, and share your story on our website for all to see. We’ll get to know one another better and the write-ups will be a lasting and growing archive of our community.

This is and will be devastating for local businesses. Remember that people need to shelter in place for any other than essential services. People are dying in the Bay Area, and we can slow this pandemic down if we act now. Please let’s keep our vulnerable neighbors safe by following this order carefully. Thanks to everyone who can support non-essential tasks using phone, email, text and video-conferencing instead of face-to-face. 🙏 We will be able to get back to regular life (or a new normal) only if we can get this under control.

Mike's Bikes is also open
