Youth in Arts is proud to present the inaugural Here and Queer: Spotlight
Show, a groundbreaking exhibition curated by a passionate Queer high school student, aimed at celebrating the vibrant creativity and resilience of young queer artists in Marin County. The exhibition will be on view at the YIA Gallery in the Downtown San Rafael Arts District from June 10 to June 21, 2024, with an opening reception scheduled during the Second Friday Artwalk on June 14 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The Here and Queer Spotlight Show is a testament to the curator's heartfelt desire to amplify marginalized voices and shed light on the struggles faced by queer students in their community. Through art, the exhibition seeks to provide a platform for empowerment and visibility, showcasing the diverse experiences and perspectives of young queer artists in Marin.

"As an artist myself, I find myself turning to paper and pencil to express my emotions and thoughts," said the student curator, Eva. "I truly think this opportunity will help our community recognize the queer struggle and simultaneously uplift young queer artists."

The exhibition features a dynamic range of artwork and creative writing pieces, from young artists in middle and high schools throughout Marin County. Each artwork offers a unique glimpse into the lived experiences and identities of students in the local queer community.

"We are humbled and honored to host 'Here and Queer' at Youth in Arts," shared Morgan Schauffler, Director of External Affairs and YIA Gallery Manager. "This show aims to amplify the artistic voices of queer students in Marin, while offering a safe space for self expression and solidarity in our community.
We invite everyone to join us in honoring these incredible artists and their contributions during PRIDE month."

The Here and Queer Spotlight Show promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring exhibition that highlights the importance of representation, acceptance, and celebration of LGBTQIA+ voices in the arts.
