In January 2024 — Saturday January 13.  Check our website for any changes or updates. They will kick off our grand opening festivities at noon with a free concert on the street in front of Pixels with music by Kid Galaga (playing 80s and 90s dance rock covers). At approximately 1 PM they will throw open the doors with discounts on admission to play the games and beverages. Please bear in mind that Pixels is a barcade and, as such, is designated as a 21+ venue (per ABC licensing); at some point in the future they will attempt to file for a different license that will allow for minors for a portion of the day.

//Why did you choose San Rafael to open this business?

"I feel a deep connection to southern Marin. San Rafael has been a mecca for some world-renowned companies including several game studios, Lucasfilm, and more. I love downtown San Rafael and especially the Rafael Theater; when I was scouting locations and saw 1137 Fourth St was available for lease I knew, instantly, this was the spot for Pixels! Partially because it happens to be across from that gorgeous theater (!) but also I like the mix of great restaurants, retail shops and nightspots surrounding it. The building interior itself is beautiful and just right for this concept, with its warm brick and wood, modern lighting, and great view of that aforementioned theater!

I also wanted to bring some excitement to the downtown corridor in the wake of COVID-19; there were so many closures and vacant storefronts that left downtown feeling a little empty and sad. I hope to contribute to a renaissance of sorts for this beautiful downtown corridor; I have gotten some fantastic reactions from people over the fact a fun arcade is coming, but also reactions of joy that a new business is coming in to energize downtown. So I’m glad for that. Downtown San Rafael is alive and well."
