Second and Fourth Street Intersection Improvements Project Update
As part of the Second and Fourth Street Intersection Improvements Project, the City’s Department of Public Works worked closely with the San Rafael Fire and Police Departments to ensure continued emergency vehicle access. The approved design maintains reliable access to West End Street and Marquard Avenue while improving traffic safety and operations. Features such as a raised median, updated striping, and new signage will limit non-emergency left turns while still allowing emergency vehicles to move through the intersection efficiently. After extensive review, the City and Fire Department agree the project will not negatively impact emergency response times and will enhance overall safety for all roadway users.
