Second and Fourth Street Intersection Improvements Project Updates

Second and Fourth Street Intersection Improvement Project and Latest Concept Design

Fourth Street, or the “Miracle Mile,” links San Rafael to San Anselmo and West Marin. While a retail hub downtown, it shifts west into a six-lane arterial handling 20,000 vehicles daily. Built mid-20th century, the corridor is outdated, with obsolete signals and non-ADA-compliant pedestrian access. The complex Fourth and Second Street intersection causes delays and confusion. This improvement project will streamline traffic, enhance pedestrian, bike, and transit access, and upgrade infrastructure, including a Class IV bikeway, accessibility, drainage, and electrical systems.
