Downtown Businesses: Get Storm Ready
Downtown businesses: Take steps now to protect your employees, storefront, and inventory from heavy rain, flooding, high winds, and power outages, and high tides this winter.
Prepare now, not when it's happening.
Things to do:
- Sign up for alerts: Register for AlertMarin and encourage managers to enroll.
- Stock emergency supplies: Prepare a kit with water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and other essentials.
- Protect your property: Move inventory, equipment, and records off the floor; secure outdoor furniture and displays; and coordinate gutter and drainage maintenance with your property owner. If flooding is a concern, prepare sandbags to help redirect water.
- Know your flood risk: Check County hazard maps and monitor weather forecasts and high tides.
- Make a business plan: Update emergency contacts, establish staff notification and closure procedures, back up records, and review insurance coverage.
- Stay informed and safe: Follow official City and County emergency updates. Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwaters.
