Ribbon Cutting for “Touch the Sky” Sculpture at Community Center, May 6
The City of San Rafael and the Downtown San Rafael Arts District invite you to celebrate the unveiling of Touch The Sky, a sculpture by Martin Taylor and the first of five installations in the Public Art Program 2026. Come help us welcome this inspiring work to downtown San Rafael and recognize the community spirit that brings public art to life.
Wednesday, May 6, 12:30 PM at San Rafael Community Center, 618 B Street
This event marks the beginning of nearly three months of new art installations arriving in Downtown San Rafael throughout the spring and summer, made possible through a generous grant from the California Arts Council.
About Touch the Sky:
Created by artist Martin Taylor, Touch the Sky features a dynamic form crafted from stainless steel, patinated steel, and gold paint. Designed to evoke movement, light, and upward aspiration, Taylor’s work reflects his signature “metal origami” style. The piece was previously exhibited in Napa and Vacaville.
Touch the Sky will be temporarily displayed at the San Rafael Community Center before moving later this year to its permanent home at the 2nd and 4th Street intersection, continuing to enrich San Rafael’s growing Arts District. Residents and visitors are invited to stop by, experience the artwork up close, and celebrate the role of public art in fostering creativity and community connection.
The program is facilitated by the arts curation firm Local Edition Creative, with guidance from the Downtown San Rafael Arts District (DSRAD) steering committee.
